PRIX RUSSOLO 2016 : SIMÓN PÉREZ
FOR THE SOUND PIECE « GRATIS »

PRIX RUSSOLO DU PUBLIC 2016 : LEO PACQUELET
FOR THE FILM « EXCROISSANCE »

« A man and a woman are walking across a dark and deserted place, seeking a wild shore. Frustrated by the landscape that seems unreachable, their trip evolves in what is close by, especially through the mysterious rippling mark located between the man’s shoulderblades.
This film explores the essence of travelling and the reasons why we hit the road to find a reality which we think is more accessible by going fast and far whereas it could be in reach of our footsteps, inherent to the speed, the strength and the weakness of our body. »

PRIX RUSSOLO 2016 IN SEARCH OF THE IMMATERIAL
Since its creation in 1979, the Russolo Award explores new sonic territories opened by the interfacing researches of the composer, painter and metaphysician Luigi Russolo (1885-1947). A key figure of the musical revival of the twentieth century, Luigi Russolo became famous in 1913 with his manifesto The Art of Noises, which develops the idea that all sounds, especially those from the industrial world, have their place in musical orchestration. It will move from theory to practice by developing many sound machines like the famous noisemakers Intonarumori or Russolophone, early synthesizers, and invent noise music, foreshadowing the concrète, electronic and data music. From the start Russolo seek to reach higher states of consciousness through images or sounds, it is within this context that the Prix Russolo 2016 opens its field of research, from this 30th edition, to all arts forms (music, film, performance, installation…) making visible or audible the immaterial.
